Amazing oop but can we also acknowledge Seth Curry setting a high quality screen on a center to set it up
Seth is such a good role player, I still miss him
maybe he has a brother whos good
You might be thinking of his dad
I mean you gotta be good to work with hornets announcer
I heard his team couldn't even made the playoffs. Good my ass lol
No kidding. I wish we still had him
As a Mavericks fan, I miss him a lot
This was a great play all around. Embiid faking like he’s setting a screen before diving. Definitely a set play that they executed perfectly.
ohh didn't catch that. that's why Capela got frozen. he was preparing for a different screen, but he was the one that got screened.
I joke that anyone that throws lobs to embiid is trying to intentionally hurt him but the two lobs in this game were perfect. Normally it's a train wreck off the front of the rim. Really the only thing he's not good at on offense. If he was a rim runner on top of everything else he can do it would be absolutely disgusting.
Ok it’s not just me. Feel like he’s one of the most coordinated big men ever except for when he leaves the ground. Then he’s an oaf.
Yo fr they set that up as soon as they saw the matchup with Trae backdoor. Add Curry's great screen and it's jam city for Joel
I appreciate comments like this. made me rewatch and look. would love to see highlights posted where all these plays are pointed out.
Yeah, all 3 players were so good here. Embiid will get the highlights, Simmons will at least get credit for the assist, but it was 6'2 Curry setting a screen on a centre that made the play.
4.5 players did this beautifully (I'm giving half credit to Tobi for getting to the spot but kinda half-assing it knowing he wasn't the target). Of course, Ben, Curry, and Embiid did that perfectly. But even if the hawks played the roll to perfection, Korkmaz is left wide open at the wing. He even thinks the ball is going to him because of how open he is. Just a fantastically executed play by Philly
Richardson for Seth is some Morey magic
and seth has two more years at 8 mil a piece, gotta be one of the best bang for your buck non-rookie contracts in the league
Shake Milton under 2million each of the next 2 years is criminal.
Burke playing in a game 7 hurt to watch
Right! That backscreen reminded me of what happens when Steph sets a backscreen for the Warriors.
Shades of Steph
TREMENDOUS screen that took Capela out of the play.
Glad I'm not the only one, that set was beautiful. Capela was really caught off guard.
Bro I was scrolling for this comment, fr that was beautiful
That was an NBA Street alley oop. Jump in the air and then just fire the pass at them
Ben was watching him all the way, great vision
He's going to start shooting free throws like that.
He should just shoot underhanded
I hope he does honestly. Who gives a fuck how you shoot if your a threat from the line
Pull it out in game 7 of the finals down 1
i know something you don't know
i am not overhanded
Honestly. Who cares if you looks stupid; if you’re scoring 1-2 more points per game, you’re making a massive difference.
RIP Anthony Mason
I'm just going to say some names because I hate that these guys just disappear after they retire.
Jason Richardson will never die
edit: also correy maggete and darius miles with the dap dap after every oop. that shit is the definition of 2000s basketball
The dap dap deserves a space on wikipedia . It was everywhere for years.
Man I loved the “Big O” Ostertag. What a goofy bastard. Did you know in 2002 he donated a kidney to his sister who was dying of kidney disease? He then came back to play and was the first NBA player to play after donating an organ.
Wow, I'm not old enough to remember Ostertag playing but for some reason I have his basketball card, and I've been using it as a bookmark for over a year now.
Edit: this sounded more interesting in my head.
Didnt know that, and that's pretty damn wholesome.
Quentin Richardson wants his dues
Just Pass the ball into the hoop Ben, pls.
That was a play that was drawn up intentionally. Look at the back pick set by Curry.
Simmons and Embiid doing their best Kageyama - Hinata impression
I appreciate this comment, aggressively.
Woah, calm down there big fella.
I was gonna say kuroko and kagami lol
HEY PLAYA, YO GAMEBREAKER’S ALMOST FULL
I like this
this shit was fucking LIT
Thank you u/ANAL_CAVITITES
I’ll put a stop to this.
I know you from r/squaredcircle
Yeah when he got kicked off the mod team for calling someone the n word
I just remembered they user name and the old school stuff they posted.
Shoutout Seth for the screen
I’m so happy these two didn’t get split up. They’re so fun to watch.
They finally have good chemistry now that they're actually being coached (sorry not sorry Brett)
Brett was great for a rebuilding coach. Dude is not meant to lead a title contender. The FO took too long to figure that out.
Yeah. I think they wanted to show some loyalty since he stuck with a lousy team for so long, and I definitely appreciate that too. But yeah like you said, not the guy to contend
[This was a statement to the fans cheering when Embiid looked hurt.](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/787738501684264971/853099678756503552/image0.jpg)
Dude they did it twice too. Bunch of lowlifes
Saw that too one time is like ehhh but doing it again blatantly a second is just whack
Sadly seems like every fan base has a moment like this
We like to think differently but all fans are the same. Higher volume just means more incidents.
True. I definitely got pissed watching it happen.. but I know the majority of Atlanta fans would probably disavow that.
And I know some fans in Philly would probably cheer if trae got hurt too unfortunately, which would be shitty and most of us would end up having to apologize for those assholes.
Fans are fuckin nuts- literally fanatics- and a large portion of the adult population sucks to begin with. Once you mix in a bunch of alcohol and an us against them mob like mentality, there’s probably always going to be shitty stuff like this and the popcorn/water bottle throwing shit happening unfortunately. But out of 20,000 people at a game I’m sure the vast majority aren’t shit heads who think it’s ok to cheer for injuries or throw shit at players.
But Philly fans are the worst right? /s
Imagine if they could play together though
That's like saying that Dario is coming over.
He’s never coming over. Wasted pick.
so aesthetically pleasing
Doc tried to tell the people
I’m pretty sure local unemployed man Sam Hinkie tried to tell the people first.
Hinkie preached it before Doc did but [he is definitely not unemployed](https://www.87capital.com/#me).
The man is truly still TTPing but it’s actual venture capitalism now. Maybe it always has been...
Doc, Pop, Brett Brown, Morey, Lebron, and every coach the sixers play call Ben Elite yet we still have all these PPG nerd constantly going "bUt He DoEsNt sHoOt."
Maybe if what you are saying is consistently contrary to experts in the field you don't know what you're talking about.
"wHaT dO dOcToRs KnOw aBoUt CoViD" same energy
Imo it’s the lack of understanding that by the way the game is played defense is literally at minimum 50% of the game. Other then Lebron, who notoriously took nights off on this side of the ball, we really don’t see many superstars that emphasize that side of the ball. Most dudes are just scorers. So when this hyper unique player comes along who is elite at everything but the one traditional ability that we consider to associate with elite players I think it breaks their brain.
LeBron was up for first team All Defense prior to the injury this season. But yes, he does take nights off the last few years.
Edit: you were saying exactly what I said. I read it wrong (I think).
No worries bro
Yeah seriously he runs the offense and they are successful because of him and the looks they get- who cares who gets the buckets as long as we get the points.
R/nba fans care very deeply because you actually have to watch the games to see this.
Yup that entire third quarter was a clinic by Simmons alone basically. He drove It over and over again and also dimes every other basket on the run they made.
Hes dray on crack. So much more dangerous in the open court, a much better scorer (when he wants to be), better passer, and has a higher defensive ceiling. People spend so much time bitching about Ben that they are missing the talent in front of their face.
Idk about higher defensive ceiling, but yeah I'm with you on the rest.
Yeah hold on a minute, do people remember what Draymond's defensive ceiling looked like?
He’s better then green at defense right now then green was at 24, and he’s longer and worlds more athletic. All he needs is exp and his defensive ceiling is honestly as high as he wants it to be
Draymond is incredible as a back-line defender and communicator. Is Ben there? Honest question, i don't watch much 76ers
He plays that role occasionally when Embiid sits, but you would never have him anchoring the defense because Embiid is as good as it gets in that role. Ben is more like a shut down corner right now.
Yeah he has the physical tools but Draymond is one of the savviest players ever, actually the fact that Dray isn't as physically gifted and was not highly regarded at 24 speaks to how insane his understanding of the game must have been (to reach this far). It's hard to make an estimate as to how far a players bball IQ can develop though, so I don't think what you said is that outlandish, especially considering the reads Ben makes on offense.
More athletic and taller Dray
Honestly this is just as much currys highlight for the Capela screen
He was always talented in every aspect of the game.. Except for shooting the BBall.
Honestly, if Ben Simmons was an 80% FT shooter, the Sixers would be absolutely unstoppable. I feel like people have this skewed notion that just because you can't shoot you can't be a dominant offensive player, Ben's problem is that he can't shoot AND can't hit FTs.
In this series alone he is 7-20 from the foul line, not only that is bad regardless of anything else, but you can bet that he probably doesn't attack the basket as much as he could, due to lacking the confidence that he can hit the FTs.
Free throws and to a lesser extent the lack of a midrange game will be the doom of Giannis and Ben Simmons in this postseason, not the 3-PT shot. You can't expect to beat the Nets with KD and Kyrie going 11-12 from the foul line while you go 6-12 in a good night.
He made 4 out of his last 5 tonight. You just have to ignore the 0-3 he was before that. And the rest of the playoffs before that.
Idk who this anyone guy is but he sounds like an idiot
Damn this just fucking happened
Just inject this into my veins
I been rollin it up and smokin it. Shit is dank
Do fucking casual from Simmons
well that was FUCKING DOPE AS HELL
This play made me jump out of my seat. So out of nowhere lol
I legit scared my family from my reaction
I yelled so loud I scared the absolute piss out of my new puppy lol. That shit was the nastiest oop
Crowd was getting excited seeing Embiid hurt. Feels good watching them eat shit while he's *still* fucking them up.
Are we just going to ignore the Atlanta fans cheering when they thought Embiid was hurt?
Fans take competition way too seriously. I cringe thinking about those raps fans cheering in the finals.
We look the wrong way it’s a highlight on ESPN.
Same thing with the popcorn incident, next day it was the entire replay of the game and was all over ESPN Twitter. Players being spit on the same day wasn’t even mentioned until they banned the guy.
Man I just watched a USA-Mexico game where multiple dudes got clocked in the head from fans throwing full-ass coca colas and shit
I don’t agree with throwing things at players at all but some of the shit players cry about is so soft. The most glaring example is the philly fan who flicked off Westbrook. Such a big deal was made but honestly who cares?
Obviously don’t throw shit and don’t use slurs but telling players to fuck off and shit like that is a staple of the game in my opinion. I personally wouldn’t but I wouldn’t think less of someone who did.
But that’s just me though. I can understand people who see it different.
That picture is a point of pride in /r/sixers
That man is a legend
In Europe they throw flares
Coca Cola if the players were lucky. It was mostly beer and piss.
Watching that game was such like culture shock after the massive outrage over the Westbrook and Kyrie fan incidents the week before. I hadn't really watched and USMNT except world cup and apparently thats standard fair for USA vs Mexico.
Multiple minishoving match fights with no yellows or reds, tons of fans throwing things at players, the match got delayed from a fans doing a homobobic chant, its was such a trip.
To be fair, the spit situation flew under the radar because trae didn’t go crazy like Russ did. If trae turned around and started yelling at the guy it would’ve made headlines right away
Well, it also got completely buried that Popcorn Boy was a Celtics fan.
It’s all about narrative now.
excuse me, we throw water bottles
Here you see a lack of energy, try some batteries bro
Atlanta fans are almost as bad as NY and Philly fans but no one cares because they haven’t been that relevant in a while and play in a smaller city
all fans suck
inb4 "at least the Lakers have fans"
do people still use inb4 anymore?
Hey now, the Sonics have fans... just not a team.
If Seattle ever gets the SuperSonics back, they immediately become my 2nd team to watch.
Same...Unless the new Sonics also move to OKC and OKC becomes a city like LA with 2 NBA teams.
The real answer.
It’s just humans being humans
Did we all forget about Toronto fans cheering when Durant blew his achilles? (literally the worst injury an athlete can suffer other than a compound fracture)
There is no fan base that has a collective awwwww like in a sitcom. Toronto fans cheered when KD went down. There’s shitty people in every town.
Sports fans suck, lets not act like that’s just an Atlanta thing. A bunch of other fans would’ve done the same thing.
Fan is short fanatic. Just for reference.
If Giannis just did this all game the Bucks would have a functional offense. I like Philly vs Brooklyn.
This is sex.
Hawks fans can cheer injuries all they want, Joel is their Daddy
Hmm I wonder why that video was never posted. Mods wouldn't know anything about that, would they?
The mods? Being biased against the Sixers? When has that ever happened 🤪🤪
Somewhere Sam Hinkie smiled on this play
Lol style on these bums. Sixers in 5
Gonna get this tattooed on the inside of my eyelids
Holy shit that was dirty
Fucking Embiid is shouldn’t be able to do that as 7’2” monster wtf
Would be more impressive if he was 5’2” tbh
The casual bad-assery from Simmons.
I just loved how lazy Simmons made that look
Props to sixers fan in lower left. He saw it coming as soon as Embiid started his cut.
Where are the "Embiid and Simmons fit together" guys at?
Shoot I'll take either of those guys on my team.
Ben Simmons haters in shambles
Embiid's knee is definitely hurting right now
His left leg was completely straight when he landed on this dunk again, just like how he's hurt it in the past. Man has to learn how to land.
He’s literally been trained on it. It’s why he’s on the floor so often. He knows what he’s doing
Bruh what. That was a normal landing lmao.
Find a new slant.
Holy shit how the ball bounces after the slam
This is going to go down as one of the most memorable highlights of the duo.
Ben when he tries is so good my goodness.
There’s no reason to believe he’s ever not trying. He’s maybe the top perimeter defender in the league and doesn’t take nights off, that’s when lazy guys relax. At some point the world needs to accept that he isn’t an iso scorer and his options are limited there
Insanely frustrating player
The crazy thing is with minimal effort (so to speak of course) he’s a A student that just doesn’t push himself to be an A+ student. He’s so good already.
Seemed like it may have been a strategy. Let Simmons expend all of his energy on bottling up Young in the first half, and keep him out of foul trouble. Then unleash him on a worn down Hawks in the second half. But maybe he just decided he wanted to score more lol.
The Sixer size reminds me of the Lakers last year, they can wear you down over the course of a series.
See, here's the thing about Ben Simmons...he makes it look effortless. It's like Bobby Abreau back in the day for the Phillies. Except that Ben goes above and beyond.
Love to see it
I really hope Jojo and Ben get their rinngs this year
What an unreal play
Actually this was bad, you see Simmons and embiid can’t share the floor in the playoffs …
They just flat out didn’t cover the best player on the court lol
Fuck that guy who made a top 10 play makers in the league and ain’t include Simmons lmao
GODDAM. The ball hit the floor so hard it shot right back up to the goal post.
That was sick
that pass looked like it was gonna soar into the stands at first, holy shit Embiid is large and Ben so good
glad to see this after fans cheered embiid hopping around on one leg
ESPN should be ashamed of themselves for the bias commentary
my reaction was OH GOOOOD
that back screen tho.
Where my cocky Hawks fans at!!
Forget a jump shot. This dude starts hitting free throws at 70%+ and we’re good.
Simmons has turned it on this quarter
He’s the glue...
Seth with that hall of fame brick wall
Everything about this is very satisfying
Great screen by Seth.
This reminded me of Prime Shaq and Kobe.
Holy shit there was a lot of force in that dunk. The way the whole stanchion gets moved around. Big time energy transfer.
Embiid is so fucking fun to watch.
