Can confirm, USPS is dropping down to Fedex level of shit deliveries for me. (I hate Fedex with a burning passion for making deliveries a nightmare)

joudheus

Funny thing is, even FedEx is still delivering here. In fact, DHL, UPS and Amazon also all make it here just fine.

Tempest_1

Thanks Trump!

Unfortunately it's been a thoroughly bipartisan activity.

I'm discussing the Post Office. Despite the ignorant downvoting, the onerous burdens placed on USPS were voted in unanimously as was the mass theft of their surplus.

BloodySaxon

Never said you did. But thanks for escalating like a petulant child. I bet you didn't even know the NALC also supported that abomination. It's literally your first google results for PAEA unanimous voting." Keep up the fine work.

It's hilarious talking to belligerent partisan clowns who attack strawmen to cover for being caught dead wrong. Unanimous voice vote, genius. I was working for the Post Office when the bill passed.

GentrifiedSocks

The crippling of the post office is their ridiculous pension situation which has destroyed them financially. That long predates Trump. Not everything is a Trump thing

Tempest_1

It's a GOP thing. Take a look at their financials under Bush vs Obama. One was written by a 5th grader in Crayon and one actually looks like it belongs in a 10-K.

SawyerJWRBLX

FOR REAL! xD

HaElfParagon

Don't forget, Biden never fired the guy Trump hired to dismantle the USPS, asshole is still in charge and is still trying to make it as shitty as possible.

booksandgarden

Biden is not able to fire the postmaster general. It is not within his power, even as president. Louis Dejoy is heavily invested in direct competitors of the USPS. He will benefit financially if the Post Office folds. That has been his plan for far longer than he has held that office.

HaElfParagon

I'm unfortunately apparently ignorant of this topic. How is it that a president can hire him, but a president cannot fire him?

BackBae

How does Gloucester getting mail work? I thought they didn’t allow people who weren’t 4 generations of Gloucester into the town. Does the mail carrier need to be a pure Gloucesterian?

eirinne

You can get mail in Gloucester, if you’ve gotten mail before in Gloucester.

silentaalarm

Lanesville gets their mail delivered by seagull

the-larch-

It's almost like the USPS has been unfairly saddled with ridiculous debt and is currently helmed by a complete piece of shit that will profit from USPS failing. It's almost like a good portion of Americans consistently vote against the public's best interest.

joudheus

Can't disagree with that.

anonareyouokay

There was this crazy legal advice post where some dude's neighbor threatened to sue the USPS if they used their driveway to turn around so USPS stopped delivering to the whole street until the local post master sorted it out.

marihone

They’re really dropping the ball lately. I know the cuts and covid messed them up but man. Getting tired of them suddenly leaving all the mail for a multi family home in the middle of the floor of the porch because they’re too lazy to look at which one goes to apartment 1, 2, etc This is not my fucking job to sort through these and put them through my neighbors mail slots on their doors.

BackBae

I live in a multi family with multiple doors. Each mailbox is next to its respective door, and each door has its own street number (2, 4), though the units are numbered continuously (2A, 2B, 4C, 4D). One day they just decided to return to sender everything to units 4C and 4D. We have no idea why. Called the postmaster who had 4C and 4D move their mailboxes to 2’s door. Now their mail all gets delivered to 2A who has to sort through it. Someone make it make sense.

diadem

Did your old mail carrier retire? Did you get him/her a holiday gift last December?

marihone

I don’t even know who our mail carrier is, nevermind knowing if they’re new or old or if they retired. They drop off the mail while we are at work. And not sure what you mean about giving gifts.

whiskeylover

You're supposed to bribe your mail carrier every once in a year.

joudheus

Unfortunately I've had a new mail carrier every year.

HackedVirus

Lmao, im so sorry! haha I was literally thinking of this today as i drove through all those construction zones like 30 times, Least you'll have some nice new side walks!

reaper412

That's not how it works in MA. First, they dig a hole. I don't know what for, but they'll dig a hole, then they'll put something in the hole and fill the hole. A few months later, they'll come back and dig the same hole and put something else in the hole. Repeat that about 4 more times. Also, they will come back on Saturday around 7 AM.

9BigDicks

If only we could refund the post office.

BeeFrizz

Can thank Louis Dejoy for this.

GrimmRetails

I wonder how long it will be before someone does Door Dash for mail and packages.

BannedMyName

That's basically the same people being hired for Amazon dude

barryandorlevon

You mean Amazon Flex?

Lasshandra2

Back in my childhood in NJ, our mailbox kept getting vandalized. At some, it and it’s post simply disappeared. The post office held our mail so we could drive over and get it. I don’t know if today’s USPS does that sort of thing. Eventually we got a post office box. It was a real pain losing delivery. I hope yours gets sorted out soon.

whiskeylover

They still hold your mail for up to 7 weeks. At least our branch does.

PrometheusAborted

I work for the post office. If the mailbox is blocked for any reason (construction, family vehicles, snow bank, etc) they aren’t supposed to deliver the mail. If your carrier likes you, they might deliver it to the door once or twice but will likely tell you that the issue needs to be corrected. I know it’s inconvenient to have to go pick up your mail but I’m just letting you know the policy.

M80IW

Postal regulations require that carriers dismount to deliver to a box that is temporarily blocked. Postal Operations Manual 632.14 states: *The customer is responsible for keeping the approach to his or her mailbox clear to facilitate delivery. Where the approach to the mail receptacle located at the curb is temporarily blocked by a parked vehicle during normal delivery hours for the area, or snow or ice hampers the approach to the mailbox, the carrier normally dismounts to make delivery. If the carrier continually experiences a problem in serving curbline boxes and where the customer is able to control on street parking in front of his or her mailbox but does not take prompt corrective action after being properly notified, the postmaster may, with the approval of the district manager, withdraw delivery service.* The above regulation makes it clear that if a box is temporarily blocked, the carrier must dismount to deliver the mail. The USPS Standard Training Program for City Letter Carriers (p 16.2.3) instructs: “If the approach to the mailbox is blocked, delivery must be attempted by dismounting where it is safe to do so.” This applies whether the box is blocked by a vehicle, a trash can or even snow or ice. Delivery can only be withheld if the problem is continual.

betyouwilldownvoteme

Welcome to my life of 24/7/365 lack of USPS home delivery 🥲

NativeMasshole

Same. I'd actually prefer the other guys to drop it at the post office because delivering to my building can be a real crapshoot, but they either won't do it or will literally charge twice as much, even though the post office is 2 minutes up the street.

betyouwilldownvoteme

Oh weird. My town just doesn't have any home delivery at all.

NativeMasshole

I think they don't do the entire center of town here because it's a clusterfuck. Much cheaper to put a drop box up and give everyone a free PO box than it is to have a worker spend most of their shift going to every building.

Petermacc122

At least it's not 365

CareDeeDee

Shout out to my hometown!

Flyingcoyote

Meanwhile my USPS guy carried a 60 lb surface plate to my door for me.

mikey_lava

A person 100 years ago: I sent a letter to my brother 3 weeks ago. I hope he’s doing all right. Hopefully he has not died of a simple infection from a paper cut, drank radiated water over the counter, drank Coca Cola with heroin, inhaled too much lead paint or something. Perhaps the mailman was attacked by a bear on his way here during his dangerous journey across hostile lands. I’m sure it’s fine though. No use worrying. You now: I payed the extra fee to overnight!! I jUsT wAnT mY mAiL!! How hard is it???

fireball_jones

Not the point of your post but it had me curious: the USPS didn’t exist 100 years ago. Like Amtrak we had something before the 70s that was similar but not that exact government entity. Someone smarter than me probably has a better take on how those changes got us to smol doge mail today.

joudheus

First Postmaster General was named in 1775. Sure, the institution has undergone a lot of changes (and I definitely didn't validate anything when I applied that, cause it's just a shit post to vent) but more or less has existed for a long time. In my mind, I was imagining the pony express but even that wasn't the USPS, but a private company that handled mail in the west during the 1800s. Yeah, not a lot of facts here but it was tougher to get mailed delivered back then and there were some bad ass people who did it.

fireball_jones

Now I’m imagining some dude kissing his wife and children goodbye, then riding off into the wilderness with saddlebags stuffed with ye Olde Market Basket flyers advertising five cent hams.

Petermacc122

Well mail was delivered via train in bags. And then disseminated via you checking at the station postmaster.

feliscat

I definitely believe you and your story, alt account

the-larch-

Get fucked, alt account troll. Pathetic.

NarfNarf508

Did I trigger you, Mr Mail Carrier?

SilkyHommus

They haven’t delivered to me for over a decade because I live on a road that’s about a minute out of the way of the rest of their route. One time they tried to say it was because of a dog on the street, but the only dog nearby is several houses away, and would have to cross multiple very tall fences to get anywhere near a mail person

Burner_Cuz_Of_Job

Government institution acting like a government institution. Bet that construction will be thousands over budget and months late too.

Most-Back-9567

To the moon

Flyingcoyote

Well do you want new sidewalks or not?

joudheus

I was good with the way they were. They only upgraded the street for the new apartments they built up at Gloucester Crossing area that no locals wanted.
