What happens when i play online video games connected to forticlient ?

What happens when i play online video games connected to forticlient ?

excalabyte

Before you connect to VPN , google ‘what’s my IP’ Connect your VPN and do the same If the IPs are the same it means they are only routing local subnets to the VPN not internet , so games should go over normal internet (split tunnel )

[deleted]

hello thank you for the reply. so i did what you have said and my ip is always the same no matter if im connected to vpn or not. So that means i can play video games and they wont know that if im right ?

excalabyte

correct :)

BrandonNC

If they're pushing down DNS servers then it's possible they can glean some information from that even while being unable to see the actual traffic.

[deleted]

how do i learn if they pushing down the DNS servers or not ?

julietscause

>and they told us the vpn we are using will track every step we take on the internet If you dont want them to see what you are doing personal wise dont do personal business on your work laptop

[deleted]

actually they didnt bother to give me a laptop this is my personel laptop they forced me to use this for work because they said they were out of laptops

julietscause

If your laptop has the resources, I would recommend just setting up a VM (virtualbox) with Windows and do all your work stuff in there with your VPN connection. Then you can have some kind of separation from your work/personal. Your work place will only see the traffic from the VM, not your personal laptop/you gaming

[deleted]

thank you for your suggestion but im using a silly old 6 years old laptop i dont think my laptop can handle that

so what you are saying is connect the game without the vpn and after that if i connect to vpn it wont track it ?

spooninmycrevis

Now is not the time to be caught playing video games on the company dollar. Just game on a different machine.

jpochedl

If you wouldn't play games during your normal work-day at the office, why would you play games during your work-day at home?

adriano33030

I am using forticlient ssl vpn at home. I have split route too. But watch out for DNS servers! All my visited websited are cached in DNS server in my company. I have to be careful what i am visiting :P

kitsinni

Is this on your own computer or the companies? Assume they can see all web activity while connected. If this is your own computer I don’t see how they can prevent you from playing in your free time.

[deleted]

yeah its my own computer. i wonder what happens when i play the game connected to the vpn

headcrap

Just don't. That's a good way to get fired.

kitsinni

Why would you get fired for playing a games on your personal computer off work hours? If it is your computer you are already doing something for work by putting a VPN on your own computer. Is there any rule against this that IT has stated?

headcrap

If the VPN is tunneling all traffic and you don't turn it off when done working, you are tunneling all your video game traffic via the workplace. Even after-hours, this would be a problem and a good way to get fired.

kitsinni

I guess I just assumed if they had the option to turn off the VPN they would. If you can after work hours turn it off unless instructed not to. If it is always on I would hope it has some split tunneling or they expect to some games and streaming traffic if they had them install VPN on a home computer.

headcrap

>what happens when i play the game connected to the vpn My response was to this. If they are instructing people to leave the VPN up after hours, they can go eff themselves. If people choose to leave it connected and then decide to game it up.. it will be noticed. Feels bad for that extra lag, tho.

speedygunzh

On the EMS server there is a inventory feature that will tell the installed applications on your computer aswell. So they can also see what games are installed if that matters

oreocrumblePR

Wait a sec... Which games are you playing on a 6 year old personal laptop? 😂😂

[deleted]

only league of legends haha
