Crafted Gear in a New Expansion

crafters usually make bank at the start of tiers because raiders will buy crafter gear before they go into savage because crafter gear is better then normal gear because of materia slots.
Crafted gear is either catch up or head start gear. If you are wondering if they are ever as good as "current" raid gear, then generally no.
Going into a new Savage you want a mix of Penta-melded Crafted Gear and Normal Raid gear (depending on Substats) until you get upgrades.
Also slight correction, Augmented Deepshadow was available when Savage Eden Raids started. You primarily get the upgrades from Eden Raids themselves so both Eden Gear and Augmented Deepshadow were released together. Odd Patches are always catch up so they are on par with unaugmented Tomestone gear and slowly unlock the upgrades for Tome gear.
You also have to figure in the explosion of new and returning players for the expansion that need crafted gear because they can't make it themselves.
At the start you'll make gil from other crafters (leve turn ins) and the 90 gear and consumables.
Oo I didn't even think about that, making leve turn in items. Those will be worth bank at the start.
Also crafting/gathering gear , won't be much of a market normally for current expansion combat classes for a bit unless as msq/dungeons give out a ton of gear.

The goal is to replace it ASAP. You use the crafted gear to start, because there's no lockouts on it, but as you acquire the capped tomes and raid/alliance gear, it gets phased out every week.

NQ gear is trash. It's about equivalent to gear 20 iLvls lower. You only ever want HQ.
If your goal is to be the man behind the curtain supplying the static with their crafted gear in week one, go for it (but know it'll be pricey and a grind, every tier). They should be appreciative.
The gear treadmill in XIV is such that every tier you're gearing not to make the fights clearable in the first case (because they already were), but to make them easier to clear as you prog (and to make reclears easier).
Look at the last tier. Gear from e8s was iLvl 500 (weapon is 505). The crafted gear that released with the 9-12 tier is 510. When a new tier drops, your old gear is immediately obsolete, and you pick up the crafted gear. This way everyone is on the exact same playing field for week 1. This also makes it easy to take breaks and catch up immediately when a new tier drops. As you continue to meet your weekly lockouts, it will get replaced, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't get and use it.
I know the goal is to replace it with raid gear, but the bois were making it seem as if it would be replaced within a week by token gear, which seems to be a false assumption because we're coming in at the end of the expansion. (1 has some prior experience in the game but he didn't have the SHB MSQ finished so I don't know how much he actually knows about the game in it's current state or how much end game content he actually did).
But it is nice to know that crafted Gear does have a place in raiding from what everyone is saying. Having come from WoW where crafting gear sets isn't a thing it's nice to feel useful doing it for once.
If you're only looking at this tier, it's probably not worth it, since the caps on *almost* everything have been lifted, and with the echo, clearing the tier is easy enough that you can knock reclears out easily to get everyone this BiS quickly.
But whenever a new tier releases, having people in the static that can gear people up makes things much easier than the alternatives (old tier gear, buying it, etc.)
