I was placed on BC after my 4th period ever, and was on it for 13ish years straight. I couldnt believe how different I felt after 6 months coming off. Pain during sex almost completely went, was happier, felt less ill in general, libido went through the roof, headaches reduced, etc. Never going on the stuff again! I feel like a different person but in a good way!

jumper494

I’ve been on it for 10 years right after I got my period and am just now coming off, hoping to have an experience like this!

saigeblob

ooh can i ask if u were on the mini pill or the combination pill? fingers crossed i have the same experience!!

Jojomcickleston

I've been on pretty much everything! IUD, Nuvaring, mini pill, combined pill, patch, not the implant though. Depo shot isnt available in my country anymore due to causing arthritis (I think?). All awful except for Nuvaring, though I still had symptoms just at a lesser degree, had to come off it as was showing pre-signs of blood clot. Worst was IUD by a longshot. No gaps in between them either. Glad to be free of it! Even my husband prefers to just wear condoms than me go back on it because of the difference.

I was on the combination pill for roughly 6 years and decided to stop taking it. I ended up getting HORRIBLE acne like extreme breakouts to where now I’m on accutane to fix the damage. Before starting the pill I never had acne so it was really devastating to see my skin change so drastically. I don’t believe I experienced any changes in mood. Though I did notice my libido came back after not being on the pill! I’m currently back on the pill and noticed my libido shifting once again. I’m 22 if that makes a difference.

I think my experience was a mixed bag of good and bad. While on hormonal BC I was intensely moody to the point I thought I could possibly be manic bi-polar. I had a super low libido. And always complained to my sister that I felt like I was in a 'funk'. But that funk was really just brain fog. I finished the pill pack and felt like I could smell color. I felt like I woke up. I seriously didn't know if was possible to feel so alive and happy! The first period off BC was pretty bad, just keep Advil handy lol. Also my acne came back (but I also wasn't paying attention to my diet). Once I stopped eating like shit my acne cleared right up. Since you're having yeast infections, you could have a candida overgrowth. BC is super harsh on your gut health and pretty much creates an environment that is perfect for candida to thrive in your gut and your body. This also leads to yeast infections and a whole host of other issues. Take a look at the symptoms and see if it's you. Also I'd suggest spending the next few months trying to get as many nutrients into your body as you can so you can get back to 'normal' as soon as possible :). One thing that also helped me was getting a consistent gym routine, it's a good way to get your hormones regulated. Good luck! :)

omg i have the same brain fog! i feel like half the time i'm not living too i'm just like braindead and going thru the motions in life! thanks! i will totally workout consistently!!

capstone_capstone

Brain fog is so frustrating :( Good luck tho! You can do it!!

Okay I just got off my pill and for the first time in my life the last few months I was worried I have bipolar disorder or another mental disorder. Decided to get off the pill first to see if it’s that… so far I am pretty sure it was just the pill.

capstone_capstone

Wow! Wishing you the best :)

RosesAndPonds

The only thing I can say is that I’m myself again. I was on the mini pill for a year, and it was awful. I was angry and anxious all the time. Crying or getting upset at the smallest thing. Gained about 20 pounds because of it. I’ve been off for two months and I’m finally me again. It’s like a weight has been lifted and I’ve never been happier.

kimbosuckz

I’m still currently on BC but I’ve also been thinking about getting off of it! I feel like there are a lot of effects but I never seem to even consider it being BC side effects. Please keep us update with how it goes! It’s crazy how the experience is different for everyone! Wish you the best. x

neptunoneptuneazul

I’m currently on the pill, and want to get off. I originally got on it because my mood swings before my period were debilitating, the depression was so bad. Now being on it for about a year, I gained 30 pounds, my libido is nonexistent (like I have to work hard to find it) and I just don’t think it’s been super useful for me, besides helping me with my mood the week before.

magicalmorganx

In January I came off of the pill after being on it for 4 years. I was so nervous about it but decided it was worth the risk because I was sick of my disappearing libido, constant (I’m talking hourly) mood swings which were not normal even with my regular depression and just feeling like the hormones were controlling me. I was in a hazy state of disconnection all the time. Here to report that stopping the pill was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my adult life! Within a month I felt more like “myself” than I had in years and it was a major relief! The low libido seems to be here to stay but I am thinking that might just be how I am as a person and learning to accept it. Overall I feel more aware, mentally stable, and like I am taking an active role in my own life and what happens to me each day. It was SO worth it

I had a lot of issues with yeast infections too (not quite as often as yours, but frequent)!! I even had to get some of my cultures(?) tested because my gynecologist was concerned with the frequency & response to the medication. That same gynecologist recommended I start taking Florajen brand probiotics. I took them daily at that time and they TRULY helped me. A couple of times in the past few years I’ve actually gotten through yeast infections by taking them and not even needing to get a script. They are refrigerated so you have to ask for them at the pharmacy, and while they’re a bit pricier they sometimes have coupons online. (**I am not a doctor and not giving medical advice, just my personal experience)

blahhhkit

As for BC, I’m off of them now after taking them for years. I just got off my pills a couple of months ago and I really haven’t noticed any changes, other than getting my period back. Sorry I don’t have more insight about that but I hope you can try the probiotics! I know how awful those recurring yeast infections are!!

murderoustacos

I was on it for 10 years, and have since been off of it for 4 months. I LOVE being off of it. I will never go back. And I had my suspicions. It took me 3 years of back and forth deciding to finally make a decision to go off of it. So trust me when I say that I had my doubts about stopping bc and was extremely worried about going off of it. But it’s been way less of a hassle for me than I thought it would. I have already seen so many positive changes in myself. My skin feels softer, my hair is stronger, sex is WAY better and way less painful. It honestly seems insane to me that I did pump those hormones into my body for years. I know everyone is different, but now I just wish I went off of bc much earlier. You got this! You’re going to love it. I do remember the first month being weird for me. I would get these weird “growing pains” all over my body at night. It stopped after a week or so though.

Nerdysylph

I went off of BC for two years in my mid twenties. It was horrible. The worst part was that I am a migraine sufferer and my migraines got so bad I was bed bound most days and had no quality of life. About 3 months after I went back on the pill, my issues finally cleared up. That said, everyone has a different experience and I wouldn't let anyone else's experience discourage you.

Sungirl1112

I was on the pill for about 10 years before my doctor was like- you don’t want kids, let’s try something more permanent! I got the hormonal IUD and omg I love it and recommend it to all my girlfriends. I didn’t have any negative side effects on the pill. When I switched I had hair loss and worse acne. But both of those are now under control. With my IUD I now have a libido which I didn’t even realize I was missing. I love my IUD. Best switch ever!

squishy_midgets

What helped get your hair loss under control when you switched to an IUD?

Sungirl1112

I think the reason for hair loss was because I stopped taking the pill, not because of the IUD. So eventually it just normalized again. I did take some biotin because I was freaking out. Not sure if it helped or not.

trobentica242

I went off it for the same reason, was on it for 6 years and at the beginning it was fine, but then after a year or two I started getting infections, mood swings and low libido. Getting of was a great decision and I do not want to go back. When you stop it does take some time for our body to get used of it and for you to feel yourself again and also you might have acne problem, at least I got them back, but with regular skin care it was manageable.

chaosDASHA

I had my nexplanon removed today after being on some form of hormonal birth control for the past 14 years. I’m hoping I’ll have a positive experience going back to my body’s normal state and I wish you the same!

HighBiuscuits

Hi there! I had nexplanon for 6 years and finally got it removed about 3 months ago. The biggest change has been my skin, it is kind of freaking out lol. I hope your experience has been better!

chaosDASHA

I’m at about 1 month now and my skin seems to be getting a little worse than it was in the past but I admit I don’t follow any kind of skincare routine. I think if I just stick to a good routine I could turn this around.

HighBiuscuits

I just stuck to my cleanser, toner, and moisturizer routine and it evened out. I used witchazel for the pimples and they went away as soon as they came.

chaosDASHA

Right on, thanks!

lilxandrews

I highly recommend reading “Beyond the Pill” By Dr Jolene Brighten she gives you the whole rundown about what to expect coming off bc, detox plan, and wellness plan!!

saigeblob

thank u!!

snailsareatwar

So happy to see all the uterus havers in the comments getting off BC!!! I’m finishing my final month and then i’m done. I’ve been on it since age 14 (now 25). I have no libido and my period is still heavy. Even after trying a new birth control, I think i’m finished with it. The effects it has on hormones and the body in general have made me realize that I need to start healing from it!

saigeblob

we're on the exact same journey!! excited for us!!

sophie826

I had reoccurring yeast infections on the combination pill as well! I never thought of the correlation till after I went off, they stopped! I even brought it up to a doctor where she said she never heard of birth control causing YI. Once I stopped, I took a year break from it, where, in that time frame I developed a small patch of acne on my forehead which eventually went away. I then decided to try out the mini pill, which I thought was working well for me physically, just not emotionally. The nice thing about the mini pill was I did not get reoccurring Yeast infections! I’ve only recently come off of that and I think i’m doing better emotionally, had other acne patches clear up, and my period go back to the way it was before any birth control (which is unfortunately on the heavier side).

saigeblob

same! all doctors deny that it has anything to do with YIs, i wonder why because i've read from these subreddits and forums that women worldwide get it due to BC pills. so strange!! i wanted to change pills but my doctor wouldnt let me! if i dont get it thru the clinic the price of mini pills would be INSANE!! anyways thanks for your input!
