This is Fine Everything is Fine Its Fine

jays1998

Dw once we're past the hard part of our schedule, it'll all become better

werbo

We just need someone from the fire department to come put out this garbage fire were experiencing atm

deafpoet

Calling this a garbage fire is an insult to the concept of trash incineration.

wintermute--

Typical household trash can be productively incinerated for energy production. A tire fire is probably a more accurate comp

nanobot001

This is actually the worst part of the schedule because they *have* to win against these teams, and they are already in the worst funk. Don’t count on timely hitting. Don’t count on the starters. Everything is going to feel like a grind.

wintermute--

🔥🔥🔥 🔥🐶🔥: This is fine 🔥🔥🔥

peeinian

It’s early

AnnalisaPetrucci

People: “At least after the Yankees this team gets to feast on the O’s.” Orioles: *reverse Uno card*

peeinian

Yes the bullpen sucked again, but the offense only had 4 hits.

Lebucheron707

Yeah- didn’t earn it today, so honestly I’m happy for the Orioles’ fans.

wintermute--

Taking bets on which vet will call for a players-only meeting sometime this series: * Semien * Ray * Panik I'm thinking it's Marcus

alabasterhotdog

I want to think it'll be Thornton, after which the rest of the team tells him to go to his room.

powerfulaura

Sleeper pick: Biggio

wintermute--

Oh yeah, Cavan is more likely than Panik for sure

Plorgy

Randall is a sneaky underdog too.

jays1998

yeah a sneaky underdog to go 0-4 with a GIDP and 2Ks

cozeners

Randall has to OBP his weight before he has the freedom to call a players meeting.

CerealK

That wouldn't be fair for Colon.

Sesco69

Submitting a wild card bet for Stripling

ToadTendo

Corbin Joseph or whatever that catcher from last years name was

FuuriusC

Caleb Joseph.

NoOneShallPassHassan

Curtis Joseph.

ToadTendo

So Cliff Joseph right?

SomethingSoDivine

It will be Nate Pearson.

deafpoet

Feasting on bad teams requires the teams to play badly.

Thiccbean_69

No, it needs us to try even a little

RabbitFooFoo

This game might be the key piece of my Joker origin story

Rot_Dogger

I'll def get more yard work done this year if this is the baseball I have to watch. Almost unwatchable ATM.

VitaminTea

It’s fully unwatchable. I’m not going to spend 3 hours of my evening watching a team that seems almost guaranteed to blow any lead they have in the final innings.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ChipStewartIII

Same. And was not surprised. I'm not even upset anymore; it's just laughable. What a trainwreck.

Cashmere306

I'd rather watch an untalented team who has some heart and brains. These guys are quitters. Yeah the bullpen has sucked the last 2 weeks, doesn't mean you start working on your golf game.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Smyzmaster

It seems to be catching on

FreecloudPicard

Fun fact: the 2017 Jays were also 33-35 at the end of June 18. Okay, maybe not so fun given how 2017 ended...

howsshegoin

it didn’t matter we couldn’t have stopped them anyway

Smyzmaster

They could’ve at least looked like they were interested in winning, or hit the ball at all

howsshegoin

more worried about whether they had fun tbh

Garamor

If the Jays need any Bullpen help, I used to throw 60 back in the day. I'm good for at least 10-20 pitches, have no prior scouting report so they'd be going in completely blind!

Konamiab

I used to have a wicked curveball. 50mph and a whole 4 vertical inches of movement. u/ross_atkins, I'm waiting on my call. (Also, I hope O didn't just @ some random dude)

IceSalamander

Gonna need 90+ wins to make wild card this year and it's getting more and more unlikely as the season progresses.

tombaker_2021

I got downvoted to oblivion when I said that hours before you, yet you get upvoted? LOL.

MLRadar

#[ARE YOU STILL HAVING FUCKING FUN!](https://i.imgur.com/8q7e5iw.png)

StonedJaysFan

Lol fucking baseball.

wade822

Can somebody let me know - is giving up 5 runs in the bottom of the 8th ideal?

Qyxstyx

Better than giving up 6

CerealK

It's not ideal, but it's usual.

Smyzmaster

It’s almost as good as giving up only 4

EpoxyMishap

It doesn't get any better than that

95teetee

In some cases* it can prevent you from needing a pitcher for the ninth inning, and in the Jays case that is *very* ideal. *in this case they weren't going to need a pitcher for the ninth anyways, so you know.

ThQp

Reminder: Ross Atkins did not acquire a reliever today, let alone the three that the Jays need. Also… we scored one run.

powerfulaura

Reminder: Randal Grichuk is sexy AF!

TooMuchGreekYogurt

Facts <3

ToadTendo

Reese McGwire would know

[deleted]

Pretty dope run tho

Gear4Vegito

You can't just aquire a reliever whenever you want. Unless you don't care how much of an overpayment it is.

ThQp

When the team is bleeding victories, you overpay. That’s pretty simple. Nobody is going to look for a Groshans, even at this time of year

Gear4Vegito

We disagree on this but I do not want them to overpay for a RP unless we are talking about making a serious World Series run. Too often do you acquire an RP with like a sub 2.00 ERA and they just come in to shit the bed. They are way to volatile. Of course if you can get some RP with term or a team is asking for a prospect you aren't too high on yourself then absolutely.

ThQp

I typically wouldn’t want to overpay either, but this is clearly a *very good* team that is being held back by a glaring weakness. They will only get so many seasons out of Ryu, and this is their one real shot with Semien playing the way he is… they need to make something of a push

cozeners

First time you and I are in total agreement. There’s no way they are making a trade for a high quality reliever anytime soon and even if they did, it would be terrible because one good reliever isn’t fixing this team.

Foltbolt

In this context, overpaying means instead of sending over a middling prospect who will probably never make an impact at the major league level, you send over some cash and a *slightly better* middling prospect who will probably never make an impact at the major league level.

freshpurplekiwi

it would just be brutal to overpay for a few RP (even though it is a big need) but the fact that guys like darvish, snell, taillon, musgrove, etc went for pennies this off-season would be shitty to lose a guy like groshans or another solid prospect in a currently .500 year for RP help

Gear4Vegito

In hindsight it makes sense why some of those guys went for pennies. * Snell has a 5.72 ERA and doesn't know how to pitch into the 6th inning. * Taillon has a 5.74 ERA and doesn't look the same after his injury. * Dravish has been great but he is 35 and had a no trade clause. * Musgrove was a great get although I don't think anyone saw him breaking out this much away from PIT.

VitaminTea

This is such a backwards mentality. The season is literally slipping away because of the bullpen but they can’t acquire a reliever because it’s too expensive? More expensive than the season??

ChrisOver9000

It's just a cost/benefit question. Would adding 1 reliever bring results worth what it takes to get it. Everyone makes it seem like adding a reliever who is only going to pitch 5 inning a week is going to make this team a contender. If it cost nothing to get a reliever it would have already happened. If the price is too high then that isnt how teams get ahead (especially in the AL East), knowingly getting the short end of a team for a short term fix.

Gear4Vegito

Backwards? Not sure know how to use that word in this context. We are trying to build a long competitive window. You can't start getting trigger happy with bad trades to patch the bullpen together, hurt the farm and thus hurting the long-term window. Does it make more sense to throw some decent prospects to force the bullpen to be good now or actually put those prospects together in the offseason to go acquire a legit SP or back end closer that are difference makers that enhance the core of the team? If the deal make sense I'm all for it but no I am not forcing bad trades into the bullpen.

strangewhatlovedoes

Lol “long competitive window”. Pretty sure that was supposed to start last season. It definitely was supposed to start this year, with Semien and Springer plus Ryu at the tail end of his elite window, but Atkins evidently has no idea how to build a pitching staff I don’t understand people like you who would rather lose and maximize years of control than make a push to win actual baseball games.

Gear4Vegito

I want to be the Dodgers. I team that is constantly making the playoffs year after year taking multiple shots at the WS. That requires a constant good farm, continuous money to spend and a good young core. I don’t care for constantly buying for 1 year runs every 10 years. Their is nothing wrong with the rotation and the bullpen was great before all 6 of the original 7 arms have gotten injured. Not sure where the idea he can’t build a pitching staff is coming from.

tombaker_2021

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the Jays FO will never have that mentality or spend like that. We're more like the KC Royals who try to be like the Clev Indians FO. How many playoff appearances have we had since the World Series of the early 90s? TWO. Two in fucking 27 years. Yet look at Tampa Bay....crappy home field fans, yet they are competitive more than us with the same lesser spending. But they have some out of the world scouts that somehow have a better eye for pitching talent than the rest of the league?? How is that possible? Personally for myself, it's much better following other teams' success (and watch the Dodgers / Yankees / Houston fail), and being a fan of the game, while trying to be a suffering Blue Jays fan in the death division every year.

strangewhatlovedoes

I’d also love to be the Dodgers but our billionaire owners like to pretend the Jays are a small market team and then milk them for all they are worth. We’re six years into the Atkins rebuild. At what point is it reasonable to expect them to win now? Why does he get a pass despite failing in six years to build anything resembling a pitching staff?

Visinvictus

The season is more or less over for us now barring a lot of guys suddenly returning from the injured list and going on a rampaging win streak. We can't just go out and pick up 4 or 5 quality relievers and a quality starting pitcher at this point in the season, and if we did we wouldn't have roster spots available when players do come back from the IL. We need to focus on setting the team up for success next season, and trading away the farm to try to salvage this season seems like a lost cause.

rangerxt

AT LEAST WE HAVE SPRINGER TO HIT DIN....oh right

EarthWarping

If they lose this series, I honestly think they're making a move. I don't know whether that's calling a prospect up, or a small trade, but this can't go on longer.

strangewhatlovedoes

You give Atkins too much credit. In his six years has he ever actually made a trade to improve the current ball club?

Gear4Vegito

Last season he traded for Ray, Stripling & Walker amongst other moves at the deadline. He also made some bullpen moves in 2016 when we were also trying to go for the playoffs. 2017-2019 we didn’t need to make any mid season trades.

Breeze-city

I hear Bautista was trying to come back as a two way player. Did someone say Canada’s Shohei?

ChrisOver9000

Ray ended with an OK statline but throwing so many pitches that he could only throw 4 innings isn't a good place to leave the bullpen. Wonder if he was tipping his pitches because Orioles are not good hitters but were able to foul off an endless stream of pitches.

LMN0HP

Sad

ldnk

It’s just one game but this is why you don’t just bank on an easier schedule in the second half. Bad teams can still beat you.

StonedJaysFan

They can still win 2/3, and you know it doesn't get better than that!

jwang1004

am i gonna keep watching them play even tho ik it may possibly break my heart? absolutely love being a masochist

FerociousPanda77

The fellas did not play a very good game of baseball this evening

Gear4Vegito

I cannot say enough how sad this is and how much this sucks BUT: * We are **NOT** becoming sellers at the deadline and moving Ray & Semien * We are **NOT** going to hurt the development of our prospects and calling everyone from Pearson to SWR to Moreno up early * We are **NOT** firing the GM before he even gets to see his plan through * We are **NOT** going to sell the farm to make our overall window smaller just for a push this year * They players, management and front office **DO** care. They ain't wanting to lose. The shitty takes I am hearing from let Ray throw 120 pitches to trading Bo for a bullpen arm to bringing Gibbons in to give heart to the team to saying we should restart the rebuild...that is just sad.

Plorgy

I'd love to be able to trade for a good reliever or two, but I don't see other teams trading anybody that's going to make a difference until early July. They have no desperation to just accept whatever we offer unless we severely overpay or give up a guy on the major league roster to fill whatever hole they might have. Tough spot to be in right now.

XelaTuobdog

Semien has great value at the deadline, would send a very bad message to the team though

AnnalisaPetrucci

> We are NOT becoming sellers at the deadline and moving Ray & Semien It’s far more likely both are moved than kept if the team is out of the hunt. Semien in particular.

evilxerox

good point... a lot of over reacting happening.. still a lot of season left

cyclingkingsley

But are we **NOT** having fun????

IceSalamander

That's fine but we have to accept it's not a playoff year this year.

cozeners

The problem is that most on this sub consider last year’s team a playoff team. It wasn’t. They were just lucky it was a short season and there was no “June swoon”, as we call it here in mediocreville. Last year’s team was *much* worse than this year’s is. Anyone who understands baseball knows that.

ThQp

That’s not necessarily true at all. It’s June 18.

PorkinsHeldIt

Yea well we just got torched by the O's and theres not much looking up from here

ThQp

It’s one game. The Orioles will win 65 of them this year

jays1998

Loss against the Orioles withstanding, the Jays have a hard ass climb ahead of them. This isn't 2015, the teams we're competing with are actually good.

IceSalamander

Doesn't matter. We have a clear weakness that will cost us games and it's very competitive this year. Which teams are we overtaking?

ThQp

The Yankees at the very least. We’re about to add Springer. Moves will be made to address the bullpen. I guarantee it

IceSalamander

A's and Astros will finish above us. We would need to pass Red Sox, Yankees, and Cleveland. Assuming Tampa takes the division. I don't see it happening personally.

alabasterhotdog

Your future divination is literally miraculous.

IceSalamander

What about it seems unlikely? You don't think Tampa, A's, and Astros finish ahead of us?

alabasterhotdog

I think there is almost 4 months of baseball left. I think it's important to remember that the past performance is just that. I think I've watched a shit load of teams both miserably collapse and triumphantly soar. I think baseball is, above all, unpredictable, at least over such a large time span.

Gear4Vegito

Even if you assume the Tampa/A's/White Sox win their divisions. That leaves 5 teams fighting for 2 WC spots. Passing 3 of HOU, BOS, NYY and CLE isn't some monster task. 3 of those teams are similar flawed as the TOR. CLE and NYY have no offence and crippled pitching. BOS pitching is starting to unravel. HOU is the only well rounded and strong team there. The other 7 teams in the AL are currently either rebuilding (SEA/KC/DET/TEX/BAL) or have been rumored to looking to sell (LAA/MIN).

jays1998

Considering we have a losing record against Houston and that they always seem to have our number, I wouldn't count on it. Boston - it's possible, but we're also 8 games behind them. Yes we have a lot of time, but 8 games is a pretty big deficit. Yankees I can see us passing potentially. CLE i'd be shocked if we didn't pass them, but then again they play in cupcake division so who really knows.

Ok_Philosopher_4463

No one is calling for Gibbons. We want Russell Martin!

Foltbolt

I am calling for Gibbons. Gibby the best

[deleted]

[удалено]

Plorgy

6 games back in mid-late July isn't when teams sell off. Especially one with this amount of talent and potential. If it's 10 games back and under .500...then yeah I think we'd listen to offers.

EarthWarping

Yeah, it's still fluid.

richardatn4t

You didn't mention firing Montoyo

Gear4Vegito

I do not think Montoyo is to blame for the losses that have been happening but I understand that you can't fire an entire team and sometimes its the manager that takes the hit to send a message or get people to step it up and perform to their expectations.

[deleted]

Because he should be sent into orbit

Cashmere306

Going to take massive improvement or we ARE selling at the deadline. Time to wake up to reality.

jays1998

If we're .500 at the deadline (and reasonably out of it which may be possible given how well every body else seems to be playing right now), floating Ray and Semien's name around won't hurt.

rvasko3

Agreed. This was never supposed to be a title run year anyways. Don’t screw up the future.

Plorgy

Maybe we just need a day game?

Thiccbean_69

Player only meeting

Gugstanley

Charlie should give a bunch of them the day off tomorrow. This has been a tough stretch and they seem worn out. It doesn't help that random a softball player and a bullpen straight from a horror movie is the best an mlb team can do. I will be watching again tomorrow

IcyOrdinary1

So… what is the excuse for the shitty offense tonight? Bal has a garbage pitching staff and is a punching bag for the rest of the division. The bottom half of this lineup belongs in the independent league.

genenuinely

can anyone explain how we go from an 18-4 blowout to five straight losses? is this normal? i think i don't understand sports

Ok_Philosopher_4463

ThQp can explain it better, but it's all pythagorean wins. It means we're actually really good and you shouldn't worry about it.

LR67

No Teo makes this lineup look so much shallower. Can't wait to get Springer back in a couple of days. We need some type of spark soon, otherwise this losing stretch could very well eliminate any chance of playoffs that we might've had.

awesomebob

100%, Grichuk just doesn't provide enough protection for Vladdy, so they can pitch around him way more.

DifficultHall8

I need to see the Blue Jays ERA spread per inning

Gear4Vegito

1st Inning: 3.31 (7th) **2nd Inning: 4.63 (22nd)** 3rd Inning: 3.84 (12th) 4th Inning: 3.57 (11th) **5th Inning: 4.63 (22nd)** 6th Inning: 3.18 (7th) **7th Inning: 4.27 (19th)** **8th Inning: 5.46 (26th)** 9th Inning: 2.58 (7th)

bunt_triple

Alexa, how is it possible to hate your favorite sports team?

rangerxt

Sir I'm a Wendy's.....

richardatn4t

Not that it matters, but so unfair that Ray takes the loss on this one.

bigheyzeus

When you put up 1 run its to be expected you might lose. Easier pill to swallow if the bullpen hadn't failed miserably the last little while

FuuriusC

Well that was awful. My wife and I were actually thinking about going to this game. I'm glad we didn't! What an embarrassing loss. Here's hoping a veteran leads a team meeting tonight and then lads come out fired up and get a solid win tomorrow.

GramboWBC

We may never win a game ever again

cdogg30

So are us fans that believe this season is a lost cause and maybe it's a good idea to sell some expiring contacts to think about the future allowed to speak now without being ostracized; or are we still not real fans?

powerfulaura

LFG CAVAN! BEST PLAYER ON THE TEAM!

ToadTendo

JOE PANIK BABYYYYYY

kvpiz

Good thing we are into the easy part of the schedule.

socolditburns

That was pathetic, this team is pathetic, Charlie montoyo is pathetic.

alabasterhotdog

dId r0gErS gAsLiGtH u2???1!!

ToadTendo

Where did Rogers touch you?

[deleted]

FIRE THAT WORTHLESS PIECE OF SHIT

solidprospect

85 win projection on fangraphs before this game , might be 84 by tomorrow.

VesaAwesaka

on the plus side Thornton has been okay of late

Sherm199

I don't get all the people blaming Montoyo. How the hell is he supposed to "manage the bullpen" better when the entire bullpen is horrible right now. Like, we don't have a single good reliever at the moment; even romano gave up the game the other day.

Plorgy

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan, but this stretch is not on the manager at all. Can't call for the home run sign on every at bat.

EarthWarping

This stretch is on two things: A) Offense slump B) Front office doing nothing to help the tema out

cyclingkingsley

Just fucking win tomorrow plz. You can't be losing this series period.

alabasterhotdog

Didn't commit an error, not too shabby!

mildsauce81

I hate this, and I'm done. And I'll be back tomorrow like a little bitch.

beatsieboyz

Times like this it's good to realize how long a baseball season is. Like 90 games to go. Season isn't even half over yet. Every team goes through bad stretches throughout the year. with that said, it'd be nice to go on a tear and soon

95teetee

> Times like this it's good to realize how long a baseball season is. Like 90 games to go. Season isn't even half over yet. Also, at times like this it's bad to realize how long a baseball season is. Like 90 games to go. Season isn't even half over yet.

VisionsDB

We need to go 55-35

Ok-Disaster3062

Is it just me, or does this team look like it couldn’t give a fuck? Nothing like laying an egg against the Orioles. 4 hits…LOL

uglyshortskinny

I wonder if the fanboys are finally going to stop with these pipe dreams of a dynasty and realize that the clown who failed miserably in Cleveland is not in fact a baseball genius.

EJNave

Incoming terrible takes from casual bandwagoners

pbandjrocketgames

Charlie Montoyo should be fired. He's a shit manager and honestly, our record would be way better if not for his shit decision making. Fire him now.

velocicopter

Yeah, that’ll solve everything.

pbandjrocketgames

Didn't say it would. It would be the right step in the direction. As even before this recent stint of bullpen issues, he was bad decision that have led to us losing games. That goes back to last season too.

Kaizaman

This is the number 1 offence in baseball?

Kaizaman

On a positive note I've been raking in money from betting against the Jays so I have that going for me. From my perspective it's a win-win, either the Jays win or I at least walk away with some cash if they (inevitably) lose.

[deleted]

Fire Montoyo. Enough is enough, the players don’t look like they give a shit. That’s on the management team. Edit:HOW ARE THERE SO MANY FUCKING DEFENDERS OF THIS GUY ON THIS SUB. CHRIST HIS NAME ISN’T CHARLIE TRUMP OR CHARLIE TRUDEAU YOU DON’T HAVE TO HAVE A DAMN CULT FOR HIM

ToadTendo

Cry

RabbitFooFoo

The Orioles just snapped an 8-game losing streak, against...well, that’s not important.

richardatn4t

Isn't there something about streak theory that states after a long losing streak, there is almost always a 2 game rebound? or something like that.

[deleted]

koreanese77

Wasn’t the 80+ ERA from Carl Edwards Jr (who also is injured now)? But yeah, Cubs fans have warned us about Chatwood.

frmacleod

Kill me to end this pain.

ToadTendo

No postgame conference?

95teetee

Can't. There wasn't a game tonight.

scottskottie

Wonder if they could sign Henry Rowengartner

vilmz

We'll get 'em back at the Skydome.

Smyzmaster

If our bullpen was competent at the moment I would say something optimistic like “at least Manoah is a great pitcher that we see tomorrow”

ZmobieMrh

It's a good thing we've reached the 'easiest' part of our entire schedule, we should start winning \*any day now\*

throwawaycanadian2

Hey, remember when our bullpen had the best era in the league?

Matacka

I memba

carlosspicywiener576

*Hello Darkness, my old friend*

ButterscotchHair

Maybe Thornton should pitch more.

MedicalBuyer1326

I actually thought this team was good for a bit lol i was wrong

strangewhatlovedoes

I don’t understand why our FO is getting a free pass here. This is a brutally flawed team and yet Atkins clearly thought they would be competitive. That’s a problem.

Ok_Philosopher_4463

Marcus Semien made $111,000 tonight. Let that sink in.

richardatn4t

how much did Springer make?

60YearBlonde

On his scheduled AAA day off !

big_wig

He has the talent to be able to negotiate for that, but yea income inequality is a bitch. Modern world needs patching.

lilaj48692

I don’t know if I should laugh or cry. I need an Advil.
