Have you ever actually read it?

Brigham Young: Ah— *Holy Scripture!?* At this time of year, at this time of year, at this time of day, in this part of the country, *localized entirely within this hill!?* Joseph Smith: Yes. Young: ...May I see it? Smith: ...No.

This is awesome.

In all seriousness, I feel like this one played *too* well over on r/DankChristianMemes. I mean, dont get me wrong, I find the BoM to be ridiculous, but it highlights how easy it is to get karma by dumping on minority groups (religious minority in this case) and common enemies. I can see why a lot of people become shittier as they get more popular online.

1) it’s a meme 2) Mormon’s are just as subject to ridicule as calvinists, Catholics, and open theists are—at least from my memes 3) Mormonism has a more robust cosmological theology than other Abrahamic traditions. I like the church of LDS. They actually engage with a scientific understanding of the universe as opposed to a lot of Christians who still think “heaven” is a literal dimension and dinosaurs lived 6000 years. 4) That doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be criticized. The historical mythology of Mormonism is just silly—and inherently racist. Jesus is white and Native Americans were white until God punished them? Yea, that’s problematic and it’s rooted in a shaky historical myth that the religion is based off of. Doesn’t mean there isn’t truth to the religion and it’s values, but the shit that sucks *should* be lampooned. Just like double predestination Calvinists

Thanks. I agree on all points. Makes me feel better about those aspects. (JIC you or people reading this thread didn’t realize and thought I was criticizing you for posting it: I made this meme and was surprised about how well it did) Maybe I’m bothered by helping people laugh at Mormons and then feel better about their own ridiculous beliefs.

I didn't realize that was your post. I feel bad for reposting from someone who is active in this niche sub. I can't tell you how to feel, but I don't think you're entirely responsible for how others engage with Mormons. Sure, you made a meme that allowed others to comment, but if they're ignorant about Mormons then that's on them. We can still laugh at others' ridiculous beliefs - because we're all guilty of holding our own

> I feel bad for reposting from someone who is active in this niche sub. Nonsense. If I didnt post it here, it’s fair game. I’m proud that someone thought it worth reposting, especially in this sub that I think has higher standards in terms of content and thoughtfulness. It feels better than any amount of reddit karma! > We can still laugh at others' ridiculous beliefs Isn’t that the truth.
