hit me with all the restaurant recommendations

I’m going to be lazy and link my own relatively recent comment, only because it took me a bit of time to type this out a few weeks ago. This doesn’t cover everything, but it’s a good place to start! https://www.reddit.com/r/Cleveland/comments/o6yk5p/is_cleveland_a_great_food_city/h2yiab2/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3
thank you so much for much this detailed list - i’ve lived in multiple major cities with great food scenes and this list gives me hope!!
Anything but Townhall!
Superior Phó. Saffron Patch. Bruno’s. Fat Cats.
Moving to Cleveland will mean a lot of really good places. If you can find it, grab a copy of Cleveland Ethnic Eats.
sounds like a plan, thank you!!
The absolute best barbecue in the entire Cleveland area: Barabicu in Parma. Get there when they open because once they sell the meat they smoked for that day they close (well before their posted hours).
Best vegan sandwich: Bravocado at Beet Jar in Ohio City
Best empanadas: Half Moon Bakery (the baked goods suck except dulche de leche cakes; the cheese empanada is OMG greasy deliciousness and the teriyaki one is delightful too)
Best cuban sandwich: Half Moon Bakery
Best smoked pastrami (ask for it fatty) is at Woodstock BBQ in Lakewood
Best cajun calamari with horseradish ranch: New Heights Grill off Lee Rd
Best garlicky calamari: Maxi's in Little Italy ($12)
The only liver I'll eat anywhere thus far: Anatolia Cafe ($13ish sauteed liver cubes with onion- ungodly salty savory goodness)
Best by the pound crispy and juicy pork belly: Park to Shop in Asia Town (visually check to be sure it is fresh and not too hard)
Best baba ghanoush (super smoky): Sonny & Joe’s brand at Boris Kosher Meats in the fridge
Best smoked sable and smoked whitefish salad: Jack's Deli off Cedar ($$$$ but melt in your mouth good)
Best pho: There are several in Asia Town but Superior Pho is consistently great, Pho Le's is second place
Best vegan bakery items: Phoenix Coffee (off Coventry and second less open location off Lee Rd) which carries Philomena Bakery items (chocolate chip oatmeal cookie is to die for).
Best jerky: West Side Market's J&J Czuchraj meats
Place to never go: B&M Barbecue (Google or Yelp expains how crappy this establishment and their "food" is)
If you want any more suggestions, feel free to ask or check Yelp. I'm a pretty compulsive Yelper/tryer of restaurants.
thank you for the detailed list (oddly specific in a good way if i may add) - will try em out! i haven't had a good roast pork in a long time, so especially looking forward to that.
by any chance, would you have recommendations for kbbq, japanese cuisine (soba, ramen, sushi etc) and dim sum? thanks!!!
For Korean BBQ, Miega and Korea House are very close to each other and both are legit with the fantastic housemade banchan dishes, barley tea, etc. I have not been to Rising Grill because the prices are so high they come off more like a money laundering front than anything else and they're in a dilapidated shack looking building so....I know I shouldn't judge a book by its cover but I won't pay those prices in Cleveland.
Dagu Rice Noodle (next to Koko Bakery in Asia Town) has great noodle dishes and their to-go noodle dishes are packaged in an innovative low to no-leak way which is nice. Otherwise I don't eat soba/ramen/noodles much at all so I don't have much to offer 'ya.
For the pork belly, do not get the by the pound stuff from Tink Holl (unaffectionately known as "Stink Hole" due to its god-awful stench even for a market of that type) or from Asia Food Co. (I've tried to get their pork belly at varying times on varying days probably 6 times over the course of a year because GDI the ladies back there are SO sweet to me, yet every single time it is so hard I cannot even bite through the skin/crust let alone the jerky-like meat so I end up chucking it at the nearest hungry cat in the parking lot).
Sushi is hard because Cleveland....eh......ugh.....eughhhh...But for \*Cleveland\*, you have Pacific East (in Coventry), Ginko, and Parallax (haven't been but heard it is good). Sasa in Shaker Square has been incredibly lackluster and obnoxiously priced for what it is and same goes for their cocktails. I got some sort of spicy margarita there once to-go and they gave me a cuplet (like a mini cup for barbecue sauce or something) of incredibly spicy painfully hot alcohol with a layer of red chili flakes at the bottom (??) that I had no idea what to do with or how to turn into a cocktail at home.
Li Wah and Emperor's Palace are both in Asia Town and have the best dim sum e.g. no half-dry turnip cakes, good shumai.
Best banh mi? For 5 bucks you can get four different kinds on a nice crusty roll with plenty of meat at "Banh Mi & Noodles" which is in a building all its own across from Kim's Oriental and Korea House. I have zero idea how that place stays in business now that I- the only customer I've ever seen dining in or carrying out- got tired of eating banh mi after a weeks-long banh mi kick a couple months ago. Order it to-go so you don't have to sit in the place and watch water leak from various parts of the ceiling onto your table and the floor.
thanks for delivering hard on the reccs!!!
[Here are some places with outdoor patios](https://photos.clevescene.com/20-secret-patios-cleveland-find/?slide=1&xinji-5).
Phnom Penh for outstanding Cambodian cuisine. Either in Ohio City or North Olmsted. Also in Ohio City, Heck’s Cafe, home of the best burger and local coffee. And killer brunches. For local chain comfort food and breakfast, Yours Truly, mostly scattered on the east side.
Phnom Penh is GREAT!
thank you, will check em out!!
Also thought of Empress Taytu if you’re in the mood for something very different. Ethiopian cuisine. No idea if it’s still open, though, so check into that.
Citizens pie. Otani noodle, Dagu noodle. If you want to a philly cheese steak honestly the convient stores or gas stations def can pretty good on that side
awesome, will check these out! thanks!!
Sittoo's right next to Playhouse Theater in downtown has such delicious, fresh chicken shawarma. Order their hot sauce too!
Muldoons Sallon and Eatery E185st
Mama Santas Murry Hill ( any restaurant in Murry Hill)
The Fairmount Cocktail Bar. Great drinks on the patio and great burger.
Pepper’s in Lakewood is bomb Italian food.
